Assessing learning success

Evaluating transfer
The end-of-course evaluation ascertains whether the learner is able to apply the language learnt in training to actual communication situations in his job. This evaluation is based on a scenario which simulates relevant communication tasks at the participant's workplace. The test includes making a phone call, writing suitable e-mails, making a presentation etc.

Language certificates: Evaluation in line with the Common European Framework
SKYLIGHT has developed examination content, requirements and procedures for language certificates initially in English and German as a Foreign Language at B1 through to C1. They were originally developed for the internal evaluation of the staff at Henkel AG & Co. KGaA. The SKYLIGHT Certificates have been audited and accredited by the International Certificate Conference, an expert institution in the area of language training officially recognised by the European Council and can be implemented by any company wishing to evaluate the foreign language skills of it staff.

Examination tasks for target level B1 and B2
The examinations consist of a written and an oral section. Participants are required to write two appropriate e-mails as part of an e-mail exchange. As an option, participants may write a short report. The speaking section consists of a telephoning task, a relationship building activity with a business partner, a meeting and, as an option, a presentation. The individual tasks are embedded in a scenario which reflects a chain of activities leading to a business goal. On average, depending on the options taken, a complete certificate lasts 1 hour for the written section and 1.5 hours for the spoken section. The two sections do not have to be completed in one day but should be completed within 14 days of each other.

Tailor-made for companies and employees
As the examination process has been audited and accredited by the ICC, SKYLIGHT is in a position to off company-specific examination scenarios to those companies wishing to evaluate the competencies of its staff. Undertaking the final exam and obtaining the certificate can either happen at the end of a training course or independently of training, can be implemented to give staff the opportunity to certify their language skills.
